![]() ![]() They were not touched when part of I-794 east of the Milwaukee River was reconstructed from 2013 through 2016 - a $239 million project that included rebuilding the Hoan's concrete deck. The freeway portions that would be replaced date to 1974. WisDOT has proposed spending $300 million to replace different pieces of I-794 on the freeway's eastern portion, including on- and off-ramps tied to the Hoan Bridge. Details on that meeting have yet to be be announced. WisDOT will hold a series of meetings to present the concepts and seek public input, with the first meeting coming this summer. Those conceptual plans include seven options for repairing I-794 between the Milwaukee River and the Hoan Bridge and two alternatives for removing the freeway between the Hoan Bridge and a few blocks west of the river. The debate of whether to repair or remove Milwaukee's Interstate 794 has entered its next phase with the release of alternative conceptual plans from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. ![]()
